A sketch of someone from one of my favorite books.

 

Here are some frames from the animatic I did. It was fun to work on this and I’m glad I was able to learn a lot from Story Xperiential with Pixar.

 

I did this animatic for my project with Story Xperiential with Pixar. I learned a lot and I definitely have a lot of room for improvement, but I’m excited to hopefully do more animatics and improve as I do more of them. This is the second animatic I’ve done. I was told to remove the intro by other people in Story Xperiential, but I personally wanted it to begin and end in space and I didn’t want it to immediately show him in his room. But if you want to skip it, you can go to 30 seconds in. I would’ve changed it if I was part of a project where the director or whoever I was working with said to change it, but with it being my own project, I did it how I wanted it to be. I made changes when I felt like they had a good point, like the scene where it shows the news report, I had his wife smiling but then see the news and act shocked and then cry, but someone said since we already saw the news report, it messed with the flow and that was a good point, so I changed it. 

These are some rough thumbnails I did for the animatic.

I wanted to do something that captures the story and I feel that this does. Leo (the dad) loves space, but he also loves his wife Luan and son Luke. Luke is also developing a love for space and eventually tries to follow in Leo’s footsteps. 

These are the designs I did for Leo for the animatic. I tried to mess with some different colors to see what would work best and thought orange was best, especially since that’s what their colors are now.

The color orange also represents joy, adventure, and risk taking which I felt fit the character.

His head shape is an hourglass to represent his limited time and the helmet is a coffin shape.

 

This is just a quick thing I did to get the idea of how I wanted the overall story to be. The pictures aren’t great and the handwriting isn’t either, but I just was figuring out for myself how I wanted the story to be.

I also made a video of it, but hearing myself talk makes me want to cry.
